I
love working at Mountain School and am so excited about
the opportunity to work in a multiage classroom. I
believe that a multiage classroom is one where teaching
strategies and learning opportunities are based on the
whole child. Children are given time to learn from play
and are encouraged to actively manipulate materials. Art is integrated into the lessons
and children have input into what they will be learning. The
learning rates and styles of each child are considered in the
lessons and activities. Previous experiences, prior knowledge and
interests of students are honored and applied to learning
opportunities. This environment will allow students to feel accepted
and safe to express ideas and opinions and stimulated to take risks
and to learn to their potential.
My goal is to make learning challenging and rewarding. I enjoy and
welcome parent participation. Teacher, student, and parent make a
powerful team.
I have a B.S.
in elementary education from the University of
New Mexico and a M.Ed. in special education from
the University of Washington. I continue to take
classes whenever I have the time. I enjoy
interacting with and learning from other
teachers. I have also achieved National Board
Certification. The requirements for this
certificate involved putting together three
portfolios in different subject areas as well as
one on professional development and cooperation.
The academic portfolios had to demonstrate in
depth planning to achieve desired learning
outcomes and thoughtful reflection that inspired
meaningful changes to instruction. A few of my
passions include putting on plays with my
students and helping our first grade teacher
Gina Andress with Running Club. This will be my
13th year teaching at Mountain School.
