Mountain School is a nonprofit, public charter school serving Grades K through 5. Children are encouraged to develop, achieve and celebrate their academic goals with the support and guidance of teachers and parents thus creating a community that nurtures the child’s individuality and instills social responsibility.

Our 2026-27 enrollment lottery will open on September 1, 2025, and will remain open until January 31, 2026.

2025-26 Enrollment Waitlist

Start the enrollment waitlist process by creating an account on the PowerSchool platform and completing the waitlist interest form. Our lottery for the 2025-26 school year was completed in February 2025. If a space is available for your child, we will contact you to finalize the enrollment process.

Kindergarten Age Eligibility

Your child must be 5 by August 31 to be eligible for Kindergarten that year.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to attend Mountain School?

Mountain School is a public, tuition-free charter school. The State of Arizona funds Grades 1-5 for full-day, and Kindergarten for half-day. For families that need full-day Kindergarten, we offer a full-day program for $350 per month. This equates to $5 per hour for 3.5 hours a day of enrichment learning, specials and lunch and recess for your student. For those that itemize their taxes, you will receive a receipt for the extended part of the day, which can be applied toward child care expenses.

Are there additional fees?

We request an annual activity fee of $150. This fee helps cover our special programs such as Spanish, PE, Music, Art, STEAM, and field trips. The activity fee qualifies as an Arizona school tax credit, so the entire $150 will be refunded back on your state tax return.

What documents are needed for enrollment?

We will need a proof of identity (birth certificate, passport, etc.) for your child, a current copy of their immunization record or waiver, and proof of residency (see enrollment packet for acceptable documentation).

How does the enrollment lottery work?

January 31 of every year is the deadline to get your child into the lottery for the following school year. Please make sure your child is in the lottery before that date to ensure the best chance of getting into Mountain School. We will have the results of the lottery the second Monday in February. You will receive an email indicating your child’s position on the waitlist.

Once the lottery is complete, will my child’s spot on the waitlist change?

Your child will continue to move up on the waitlist as spots are filled. However, if a sibling of another applicant gets into Mountain School, that applicant will be moved to the top of the waitlist under the sibling preference rule, which could affect your child’s position on the waitlist.

Once my child is fully enrolled, do I have to go through the lottery process again?

No, once your child has a spot in Mountain School they have a spot every year. We also do sibling preference for younger siblings.

Do lottery lists carry over to the following school year?

No, the current year lottery does not carry over to the following school year, if still interested, you will need to enter the lottery again.

How are students placed into classrooms once they receive a spot at Mountain School?

Students will be placed into classrooms with available spots. Because of this, you may not request a specific teacher or classroom when enrolling. We will send out welcome letters and supply lists from teachers in Mid-July for all enrolled students.

My child has an IEP or special needs. How will they be served?

Mountain School is a full inclusion school; meaning all students will be in a regular classroom/program full time. Students with disabilities are in the classroom with non-disabled peers for the majority of the time; however, services are provided for the child as needed.
