Events & Traditions

Mountain School’s community is strengthened through the many traditions that have developed over the years that bring together our families and staff. Whether it is an outdoor excursion, an educational field trip, a school fundraiser or a service project, learning and experiential education are embedded in who we are. Some of our traditions take us into the wider community of Flagstaff and even beyond, broadening the experiences and perspectives of the children.

Chili Cook-Off

A Mountain School tradition and lovely get-together (and fundraiser!) at the school with chili, cornbread, mac and cheese, lemonade, frozen treats, line dancing, face painting, a photo booth, music, and fun!

Jog-A-Thon

Mountain School has a tradition of running and it kicks off with the Jog-A-Thon. Students collect pledges for running laps. Teachers, parents and grand-parents come out to mark laps and cheer them on!

STEAM Night

Flagstaff organizations join our Mountain School community to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) through interactive, explorative activities. S’mores included!

Family Cultural Night

We learn about and celebrate our school’s varied backgrounds by visiting state and country tables, tasting cultural foods and “traveling” the world!

Spring Concert

Our annual musical event and highlight of the year is an evening, musical performance put on by the students and orchestrated by music teacher, Ms. Maggie.  Our whole Mountain School community comes out to watch.
